About this plant
The aerial parts of Viola tricolor contain rutin, salicylic acid derivatives, and violanthin, compounds traditionally used for skin conditions including eczema, acne and cradle cap. The German Commission E approved wild pansy for mild seborrhoeic skin diseases. Known across Scandinavia as stedmoderblomst and Stiefmütterchen, both meaning stepmother flower, from a folk tale about a cruel stepmother.
