About this plant
The seeds of Trigonella foenum-graecum contain 4-hydroxyisoleucine, an amino acid unique to fenugreek that stimulates insulin secretion, diosgenin, a steroidal sapogenin used as a pharmaceutical precursor, and trigonelline, a niacin precursor. Charlemagne ordered its cultivation across the Carolingian empire. In Ayurveda, fenugreek is methi, one of the most important galactagogues for promoting breast milk production.
