About this plant

The aromatic berries of Juniperus communis contain alpha-pinene and terpinen-4-ol, the primary diuretic compound that increases renal glomerular filtration. Foundational to akvavit and Nordic spirit traditions. Viking Age fumigation rituals used juniper branches to purify air and ward off evil spirits. The folk name Wodansgerte means Odin's rod.
