About this plant
The aromatic inner bark of Cinnamomum verum contains trans-cinnamaldehyde, a potent antimicrobial compound responsible for cinnamon's distinctive flavour and warmth. Traditionally used in Ayurveda as a digestive tonic for over 4,000 years. Sri Lanka's cinnamon groves were so coveted that Portugal, the Netherlands and Britain waged successive colonial wars for control.
