About this plant

The seeds of Sesamum indicum contain sesamin and sesamolin, unique lignans with hepatoprotective and cholesterol-lowering properties, and up to 55% oil rich in oleic and linoleic acids. One of the oldest cultivated oilseed crops, documented on Sumerian clay tablets and in the Ebers Papyrus. The magical phrase Open Sesame from One Thousand and One Nights references the seed pod's explosive dehiscence.
