About this plant

Two distinct tissues of Aloe vera yield different medicines: the leaf latex contains aloin, a stimulant laxative with well-established use for occasional constipation, while the inner gel contains acemannan, an immunomodulatory polysaccharide for wound healing. Referenced in the Ebers Papyrus around 1550 BCE, one of the oldest surviving Egyptian medical documents.
