About this plant

The fruits of Pimpinella anisum contain 70-95% trans-anethole in the essential oil, a phenylpropanoid with carminative and expectorant properties. Pliny declared there is nothing more beneficial to the abdomen than anise. One of the oldest cultivated spices, it is the flavour base for pastis, absinthe, ouzo, rakı, sambuca and anisette.
