About this plant

The rhizome of Podophyllum peltatum contains podophyllotoxin, an aryltetralin lignan whose synthetic derivatives led to etoposide, now a WHO Essential Medicine for testicular cancer, lung cancer and leukaemia. Cherokee called it oo-nee-squa-too-key, meaning it wears a hat. One of the most significant contributions of Native American ethnobotany to modern oncology.
