About this plant
The leaves of Nicotiana rustica contain 5-9% nicotine, up to nine times higher than common tobacco. Known as mapacho, it remains central to ayahuasca ceremonies and Amazonian curandero practice. Used in sacred pipe ceremonies by North American peoples and never recreationally. Called picietl in Nahuatl, it was the primary tobacco of Aztec and Maya ceremonial life.
