About this plant
The flowering tops of Lavandula angustifolia yield an essential oil rich in linalool, a monoterpene with anxiolytic effects via NMDA receptor modulation. Traditionally used for relief of mental stress, exhaustion, and as an aid to sleep. Named from Latin lavare, to wash, reflecting its use in Roman baths. Silexan, a lavender oil capsule, is a licensed anxiolytic in Germany.
