About this plant
The root of Glycyrrhiza glabra contains glycyrrhizin, a triterpene saponin approximately 60 times sweeter than sucrose, with anti-inflammatory and expectorant properties. Traditionally used to relieve coughs and digestive complaints. Liquorice root was found in the tomb of Pharaoh Tutankhamun. Theophrastus documented it for respiratory complaints around 300 BCE.
