About this plant
The leaves of Eucalyptus globulus contain 1,8-cineole (eucalyptol), a monoterpene oxide that comprises 60-85% of the essential oil and acts as an expectorant and mucolytic by stimulating ciliary motility. Native to Tasmania, it was introduced worldwide in the 19th century to drain malarial swamps. The EMA recognises eucalyptus oil for relief of cough associated with colds.
