About this plant

The seed of Cola acuminata contains caffeine and theobromine, methylxanthine stimulants that suppress fatigue and increase alertness. Sacred across West Africa, kola nuts are ceremonially exchanged as symbols of hospitality, friendship and respect. In 1886, John Stith Pemberton combined kola extract with coca leaf to create Coca-Cola, one of the most commercially significant botanical formulations in history.
