About this plant
The rhizome of Zingiber officinale contains gingerols and shogaols, phenolic compounds that inhibit COX-2 inflammatory pathways. Known in Ayurveda as vishwabhesaj (universal medicine) and in TCM as shengjiang for nausea and digestive complaints. One of the earliest spices to travel the Silk Road, ginger reached Rome by the 1st century CE.
