About this plant

The leaves and flowers of Thymus vulgaris contain thymol, a phenolic monoterpene and potent antiseptic classified as GRAS by the FDA, and carvacrol, its structural isomer with anti-inflammatory properties. Traditionally used as an expectorant for productive coughs. Thyme oil residues discovered in Egyptian tombs dating to approximately 1500 BCE, likely used for embalming.
