About this plant
The seeds of Ricinus communis contain ricin, one of the most toxic naturally occurring substances, yet the pressed oil is entirely ricin-free. Ricinoleic acid, comprising 90% of castor oil, acts as an anti-inflammatory laxative. Documented in the Ebers Papyrus around 1550 BCE, among the oldest continuous medicinal uses on record.
