About this plant
The leaves of Camellia sinensis contain L-theanine, an amino acid unique to tea that promotes calm alertness, and epigallocatechin gallate, one of the most potent polyphenol antioxidants known. The six tea types, white, green, yellow, oolong, black and pu-erh, all come from the same plant. First documented in the Shennong Ben Cao Jing around 200 CE.
